Snow into the valleys: deep “Kim” brings winter to Tyrol

Innsbruck – The sun will take a break in the next few days. But snow fans can look forward to it: It is snowing again in Tyrol, and even into the valleys. “From Monday, an extensive Iceland low called” Kim “will initiate a change in the weather and Central Europe will be affected by a western high current,” predicts Manfred Spatzierer, chief meteorologist at the Severe Weather Center (UWZ).

Already at night on Tuesday the clouds are getting thicker from the west. The first snow showers are possible in Tyrol in the second half of the night. In the morning, snow and rain spread across the country. “With the passage of the cold front, gusty gusts are in sight from Lake Constance to Lower Austria,” says Spatzierer. In addition, rain spreads during the day and in the evening the snow line in the Northern Alps drops by around 500 meters.

Up to 40 centimeters of fresh snow

It is wintry on Wednesday in Tyrol: At a maximum of -2 to +3 degrees, flakes keep falling from the thick clouds. It can also be sleet below 700 meters. “From Vorarlberg to the Salzkammergut, around 15 to 30 centimeters of snow are in sight above about 1000 meters, and 40 centimeters of snow in sight in the Arlberg region,” says the UWZ weather expert.

On Thursday, the sun will show up again and again in Tyrol, before the next downpour will likely bring rain, wind and milder temperatures again at the weekend. (TT.com)
